By linking Google Home with a compatible Harmony remote system, you can perform many of the control and content access functions for your TV using Google Assistant voice commands. If your TV also has HDMI-CEC and that feature is enabled (check your TV's HDMI settings), you can use Google Home to tell your Chromecast to turn the TV on or off. Your Google Home can also switch to the HDMI input the Chromecast is connected to on your TV when you send a voice command to start playing content. Typically, after you set up a Google Chromecast, a smartphone or tablet is used to stream content through the Chromecast so that you can see it on a TV.

Switches and Bulbs
We’ll be able to benefit from the response time and low latency of Thread devices without having to buy a new hub. I have a wide range of smart bulbs from various manufacturers that aren’t HomeKit compatible. There are some from Cree, Cync , Samsung, Sylvania, and Wyze. I do have one LIFX bulb, a few hand-me-down Philips Hue bulbs from Stacey, and a Hue bridge so I did connect those to HomeKit.

Google Home will ask, "Where is this device?" Select the room name where the speaker is kept, such as Office, Bathroom, Den, Dining Room, or Living Room. Download and install the Google Home iOS app on your iPhone or iPad. Say "Hey Google" or "OK Google" followed by a question, request, or command when the installation is complete. Select Set Up and follow the app instructions. If you have a Roku media streamer plugged into your TV, you can link it to Google Home by downloading the Quick Remote app .
Use Google Home With URC Total Control System
You cannot use Google Home voice commands to watch content from apps not supported by Google. To view content from any additional desired apps, they must be sent to the Chromecast using your smartphone. However, the only apps you can address by name directly are the ones mentioned previously that Google Home supports. Linking Chromecast with Google Home is one way to use Google Assistant voice commands to stream video to your TV. Still, there are a number of TVs that have Google Chromecast built-in.

After a solid few years of running my smart home on Google’s platform, I’m starting a transition to Apple HomeKit. For several reasons, it’s not going to be a cheap or seamless endeavor. And it’s going to take some compromises on my part as well.

Take fun to the next level with smart TVs, streaming devices, and more. — two HomePod mini speakers paired in the same room create left and right channels for fully immersive audio. The unique acoustic waveguide directs sound out the bottom of the speaker, creating a 360‑degree audio field for consistent sound no matter where you are in the room. From the Add Your Video Services screen, select the plus sign (+) to link a video service such as Netflix.
Another way you can connect Google Home to your TV is using one of the best universal remotes, such as a compatible Logitech Harmony remote. On the settings page, tap Default TV and make sure the Chromecast TV is selected. Follow any additional on-screen steps to set up your Chromecast. I know it is not exactly the same as a smart display but any of the recent entry level iPads connected to a power source could easily act in a similar capacity. I frankly can’t think of something worse to do than switch to Apple anything. Apart from that, what IS this concern people have over privacy??? I only get benefits from being in the Google ecosystem, what adverse effects has anyone anywhere ever experienced? It’s just a notion and no one has ever yet provided a valid reason, other than “oh, but it’s not right for a company to know your business”.

I still have some Echo’s around, including a Show 5. But, they will be phased out in our house with HomePod minis as time allows. I do not like the privacy side of Alexa either. Well, if you have any networking ability, that’s not necessarily the case at all. Keeping homebridge running on a local server with devices properly isolated using VLANs doesn’t compromise one bit while letting you use a bunch of other devices. We won’t be losing much if any functionality in our smart home.
If you want to use Google Home with your TV and URC Total Control 2.0, an installer is required to set up the link. (Visit the URC website to learn more.) Once linked, the installer then develops the entire command infrastructure you need to operate and access content on your TV. If you aren't near your Google Home, you also have the option to use the Quick Remote app keypad on your smartphone. The Quick Remote app works the same way on both plug-in Roku devices and Roku TVs (TVs with Roku features built-in). If you set up Google Home in the same house as your Chromecast, you shouldn't have a problem immediately pairing the two to play music and videos.
You would need an Apple TV to support bluetooth speakers. But again, if yours is working well for you, I’m happy for you. At this stage in the evolution of the industry, different people can have very different experiences even on the same platform.
I’m hoping that Thread will eventually change that but my guess it will be at least a couple years before we see many products. Change comes slowly to the HomeKit world. Mostly HomeKit native devices here and the experience is first rate. Automations are wider ranging, easier to set up and more configurable than anything in Google Home presently. I still use a Nest thermostat, protect smoke co2 alarm and secure alarm. The family like the ease of use from the thermostat and a smart/wired combined smoke/co2 alarm is surprisingly hard to find here in the UK.
